What can you expect on safari with us?

Expect the unexpected! Going on a Kruger Big 5 safari in Kruger Park, is not unlike a live performance. The stage is set, the actors are wild and complex, the plot is unscripted. The adventure begins as darkness dissipates like a curtain rising – the landscape is shrouded in shadows, the stage is set…

A rhino bull marks his territory, lifts his head and twitches his ears every now and then for sounds of any rival approaching as he grazes. Nearby, a zebra flicks his tail and stamps a hoof in irritation at the first flies of the day. The fresh aroma is crushed from dewy grasses as playful impalas chase one another in games that are teaching them survival skills, while a hyena mom curls into a culvert beneath the road with her pups – their tummies are fat – her job is done for the night.

But this is a sensory extravaganza with all the effects you could dream of – the pungent smell of fresh elephant dung as they head for a  mid-morning swim. It’s a family affair with vocal trumpeting and playful rolling, where no one is excluded or left unprotected.

Not far from them, a venue of vultures bath too, and open their wings to dry as they rest in the river bed.

Others are resting too – a pride of lions pants in the shade of an African Acacia, giving credence to the old adage that you can tell the heat of the day by the length of the cat. The leopard sleepily concurs from where she is cradled in the arms of a Maroela tree. She opens a lazy eye in the receding afternoon sun at the cackling sound of the Natal Francolin. Dusk approaches with the most beautiful African sunset you will ever see… until you see tomorrow’s and think the same thought again. This is her magic – the beauty of the Kruger and her wild inhabitants, and their spontaneity that keeps us coming back for more.

In that golden hour as the light fades, time stands still and your heartbeat matches that of the woodpecker pecking at a tree close by. You are one with the peace of nature – tired, but strangely refreshed by the elements too. On safari, there is always a sense of being reconciled with nature. Accepting that you are a part of it.
